One of my tasks this week was to begin writing a press release for RibbonFish, now we have all heard of a press release and probably read a million blog articles, but what is really the difference between the two? Well lets break it down…
First of all, let’s start by explaining what a press release is.
A press release is designed to exhibit newsworthy information about a product, company, service, even celebrities, the list goes on!
In the business world the purpose of a press release is purely for promotion/marketing. A press release is written in a formal tone and have a standard format which includes a title, subheading, a quote, the main body text and a summary. A press release can be posted on your website or even sent to a distributing site.
So, what about blog articles?
A blog article is a lot more casual than a press release, the tone of a blog article does not need to be formal. Blogs are written for informational purposes or to express an opinion and can be on any topic, when writing a blog article it should be written as if you are personally talking to someone. There is no specific format for a blog article, it can be as short or as long as you please. Nearly all businesses will have a blog page included in their website, this is where they can share their expertise and discuss industry trends -etc. There is many benefits of having an active blog as it can help increase search engine traffic, support your social media presence and help establish authority within your industry.
Writing press releases and blog articles can both be very beneficial to your business as they are both tools that can be used to increase brand awareness and keep your customers up to date with what is happening behind the scenes of your business!
